Improve Fairview Park

posted 16 Apr 2010 08:37 by Eoin Kilfeather   [ updated 17 Apr 2010 06:47 ]

Meeting: Wednesday April 21st at 7pm in Marino College

Dublin City Council Parks & Landscape Services Division are planning some proposed improvements  to Fairview Park.

This will include a newly designed high quality playground, upgrading of the seasonal bedding areas and include a newly designed outdoor performance area with some public seating. We are about to start the public engagement phase which will take place during the month of April 2010. As part of this, a temporary sign will be erected in the location of the playground highlighting the new playground and seating area and the website will be regularly updated as the project progresses, and also keep an eye out for the local newspapers and notice boards in the neighbourhood. Initial layouts have been drafted at this stage and background research ranging from the feasibility of the feature bandstand to current play design ideas including the promoting the value of active recreation is being carried out by the Parks and Landscape Services Division.

It is intended that these improvements will form quite a significant modification to the park, creating an interesting focal point, and an exciting addition to Fairview Park.

Parks and Landscape Services Division welcome all thoughts, suggestions and comments in relation to the proposed improvements and are planning an open day in the Park, an evening meeting and hope to work with a couple of local schools in the coming weeks.

National Spring Clean is Ireland’s most popular, well recognised and successful anti-litter initiative. Now in its 12th year, the campaign encourages every sector of society to actively participate and take responsibility for litter, by actually conducting clean-ups in their own local environment. National Spring Clean traditionally takes place throughout the month of April.

Water Conservation message from DCC

posted 12 Jan 2010 04:01 by Eoin Kilfeather   [ updated 12 Jan 2010 04:03 ]

Water demand has remained at a very high level since before Christmas. A further sharp increase has occurred since the beginning of January. Demand is currently running at a higher level than at any stage in recent years.

Due to the cold weather the number of broken mains has increased dramatically. Our crews are repairing these breaks as they arise. To help us in this regard we would ask people to report any location where they see water rising or running. In some cases householders may be leaving taps running. This is contributing to the problem and we would urge people not to waste water in this way.

There is obviously no problem with storage levels of untreated/raw water. However, even with all of the treatment plants at full production, the storage levels of treated drinking water are reducing to critically low levels.

We are asking consumers to assist us in maintaining the water supplies by restricting their use of water as much as possible. We will be reducing pressures throughout the system in order to conserve supplies. While we will try, as far as possible, to maintain pressures during peak demand periods pressures will be reduced at other times. This will result in lower pressures and in some cases may result in a loss of supply for a short periods of time.

Dublin City Council regrets any inconvenience caused by these restrictions and will do everything possible to minimise their scale and duration.

Water is precious. Let’s conserve it. Tá uisce luachmhar. Caomhnaímís é.

Lets help our Community

posted 11 Jan 2010 03:40 by Eoin Kilfeather   [ updated 11 Jan 2010 05:04 ]

With the temperatures set to fall to -12 degrees we are asking all to act as good neighbours and call on their old or vulnerable neighbours in Marino, Annadale and the surrounding areas.
As we all know this weather is set to continue for at least the next week. The condition of the paths is a major problem for ALL. We need everyone to lend a hand and get to work to clear their own drive or path.
Many of you will be looking forward to a week- end with family, friends and children after a very tough week due to the bad weather. Why not spare an hour and get out and clear the paths and driveways in your area. You could get together with a few friends. If we all cleared “our spots or spaces” in urban areas it would help everyone to move around more easily whether old or young.
If we wait for the local authorities or government to do it we could be waiting forever. Lets get working and help ourselves.
